Virgin Australia will set up a new Adelaide base for cabin crew, bringing up to 80 new jobs to South Australia.
Virgin Australia Chief Customer Officer Mark Hassell said the move highlighted Adelaide as an important market for Virgin Australia’s domestic operations.
“We have more than 40 flights arriving and departing each day at Adelaide Airport, reaching every mainland state capital and tourist destinations such as the Gold Coast and Denpasar,” Mr Hassell said.
“Having a cabin crew base in Adelaide will create significant benefits for our business, giving us greater flexibility in scheduling flights and crew. These routes have previously been serviced by cabin crew from other states but this decision means there will be jobs open to South Australian residents, who can live and train locally.
“This decision is a reflection of our growing network, and the confidence we have in the South Australian market.
“We pride ourselves on having the best customer service staff of any airline in the Pacific, and we are looking forward to bringing the best customer service staff in South Australia on board with our team”, Mr Hassell said.
Virgin Australia has approximately 180 employees based in South Australia, working at Adelaide Airport in customer facing and ground crew roles.
Virgin Australia Cabin Crew currently work from bases in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
Applications for positions in the new Cabin Crew base will start this week, with the first employees expected to start training in November.
